2011 Topps Series 1 Baseball is designed by Two-Face, melts faces with awesomeness.

We talking real diamonds here! No wonder this thing is sold out everywhere

I know, I know, I promised hockey cards for the most part and I'm already failing at on post two, but I just busted a blaster box of 2011 Topps Series 1 baseball, and the card design is ridiculously awesome.

Holy molly. If this blog contained more pictures of these cards, I'd apply for a sun glasses sponsorship

Look at that ridiculous card up above. So gaudy it's awesome (the eighties, they live!). The foil on it looks like it's actual diamond, and I can't wait to get my hands on a Canary version of it. That beast doesn't just look like diamond, it looks like GOLD diamond (Topaz if my Diablo II days has taught me anything).

True fact: The only non-pitcher, non-shortstop card to not feature a player admiring his hit1

As exuberant and over-the-top as the diamond anniversary cards are, however, the base cards are excellent in their elegance. I've never realized how much I missed a white border on cards. Classy. I've also never realized that auto-detect on my scanner doesn't detect white borders. Sloppy.

Not a good time to be pulling Man-Ram cards.

The inserts are pretty cool, a good mix of modern and old school. Like the rest of the set, Topps obviously didn't really care for "nuance" and "subtlety". They instead opted for "bull in china shop". All that fancy schmancy stuff they saved for Heritage. I'm not sure I really understand the whole digital pack business on the chrome cards, but I've never said no to chrome before and I ain't gonna start now.

Finally, no one talk about the hockey game tonight. As @TSNBobMackenzie so succinctly put it "Van deserved better fate tonight - it was their best game of the series - but that's what happens wen you pull total no shows in game 4 and 5."

Amen. If the Canucks played like this in both those games this series doesn't even come back to Chicago. The Canucks have no one to blame but themselves. Still got one more shot at avoiding city-wide despair and talk radio apocalypse on Tuesday.

1 - Not true. But still, there aren't many.

An Ignominious Start

Wonder why this post starts with a picture of mail? Read on to find out!

Alright welcome everyone, I'm going to set a great example for this blog by mailing in this first post. I might even mail it in so hard that I get called into the dressing room of the Canucks to partake in the grilling that Vigneault will surely inflict on the team after tonight's fantastic effort.

Mmmm.... Grilling.... *drool*

Anyways, despite the soul-deflating loss to the Blackhawks on this day, the Canucks still hold a solid lead over the defending champions so no one should be diving off bridges yet. If we ever have to come back to this god-forsaken arena though, it is officially time to start worrying.

Okay, good, that should do it for the main events of today. Are we done here? ...What do you mean I can't just pretend that I've been blogging about sports for years? I have to actually introduce this blog!?

Fine, fine, I guess before I wrap this up I should tell everyone who is reading this (which is no one at the moment) who I am and what this blog will be about. For that first point, I am a 23-year-old engineer who lives with his parents and who collects hockey cards. No, seriously

Sidebar, got any sweet Sedin cards? Hit me up. This is at least 50% of the reason I'm even starting this blog.

I figured since I fit the stereotype of a blogger to a tee I might as well as just embrace my destiny. Truth is, the only reason I don't live in the basement is because the roof of said basement is about half an inch above my head.

Now that we've established that with my background smashing success is inevitable, we can move on to what this blog will be about. Luckily, because I know that the average attention span of an internet user is approximately 35 seconds (and not at all to save me the work of actually typing sentences and paragraphs), I've presented the relevant topics of this blog in a handy list:
  1. The Canucks (aka. Greatestteamonthefaceoftheplanetandthedestinedsaviourofallmankind)
  2. Hockey Cards
  3. Whatever else I feel like bitching about on that particular day
  4. Whatever my significant other decides is worth posting. Expect flowers and pictures of food.

Alright, that should wrap it up. Hopefully TreeTree (said significant other) will decide to throw something up here. I expect it will be much better than what I have written. In fact, I expect it will be full of frills. (Get it? Because she's a girl? Hahaha... This is the best you'll get, so you better enjoy it).

P.S. if somehow the Canucks lose to the Blackhawks in this series, chances are this blog will instantly be neglected. So at least you won't be inflicted by it for long in that case.
